If you are tired of your job working in collision repair in Winnipeg and you want to try to develop some of the ideas you have into marketable products then you have probably, at some point, wondered about patents. In many cases, securing a patent for your product is an essential part of the processes of bringing your product to market, but it is not always an easy one. There are four major steps that anyone must take in order to patent their product.

If you have developed a new type of automatic strapping machine and you want to patent it the first thing that you need to do is understand what a patent is. Put very simply, a patent is a guarantee that you, and only you have the right to profit from your design. This is important, because if you design a new type of product and put it on the market a patent will prevent others from copying your product and producing it themselves. There are many different type of patents and significant research may be required to determine which is appropriate for your product.

The next step to getting a patent for the new decking material that you have created is to research patent rules to determine if you product is actually patentable. In order for your product to be patentable it has to meet three requirements. It must be novel, it can't be obvious, and it has to be useful. These requirements might seem straightforward, but this can be tricky. This is an area you should research carefully before you continue with the patent application process.

If you understand what a patent is and you are fairly certain that your idea is patentable, it's time to do a patent search. Just because you came up with an idea for a new way of providing vacuum truck services that you'd never heard of before doesn't mean that no one else has thought of this idea before. This is the stage where disappointment most often occurs. It is possible, even probable, that your idea may already be patented. This doesn't mean that you didn't come up with the idea independently, it just means that someone else thought of it first.

So you've completed the first three steps and have discovered that no one else has patented your idea for super efficient industrial waterers. You are finally getting close to your goal! The final step is to actually apply for a patent. This is a fairly complex process and you should be sure to complete it carefully. There will be a fee to pay and paperwork to submit. Then you will need to wait to find out if you patent application is successful.
