Hi everyone!  I'm Heather DeMarco at the business desk and as the week winds down I'd like to make a plea to both parents and kids alike. 

There is a growing trend that's taking place in America and it's a trend that many are worried about.  More and more teens and young people are turning to online gambling as a means of paying off their debts and I along with many others are here to tell you to please, please stop it before it's too late.  Recent reports have revealed that more and more teens and pre-teens are using their pocket money and their parents credit cards to engage in such online games as Poker, Blackjack, Roulette, and betting on sporting games in order to generate more spending money.  More and more persons in their 20s especially college and university students are doing the same in order to pay off their educational debts and many of them are even turning to the heavy purchasing of lottery tickets to do the same. 

It's hard for parents to keep a constant eye on their kids in their 20s or those who have left home and living on their own because many of these have their own credit cards and are literally unstoppable but parents could do something when it comes to their pre-teens and teens. 

They could keep a closer eye on what their kids do when they get on the Internet.  They could resist the temptation to let their kids have access to their credit dcards.  They can more closely monitor what their kids do with their pocket money.  They can also keep a closer eye on their kids spending habits and activities. 

Most kids living at home have admitted that they either use their pocket money or their parents credit cards to engage in online gambling.  Many psychologists emphatically state that the younger they start the more difficult it is to stop the habit.

It's worth it to all parents because afterall we don't want to see them gambling with their futures!  If they get into trouble with online gambling then we as parents also get into trouble because we are obliged to help them get out of it.  Maybe it's time for us as parents to start calling on the appropriate authorities to start clamping down on the availability of gambling to our teens and teens.  In addition, parents need to do their part.  I'm not sure however what we can do to help our older kids except to appeal to them to stop and think before doing it.
